This Weekend: Carnival, New Hope PRIDE, Kids in the Hall, Lakes & Rivers

Unplug and go tubing or kayaking, canoeing or paddleboarding, at one of our local parks this sunny Sunday.

Friday, May 20, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. – The weather promises to be pretty spectacular (and hot!) this weekend. Friday night, why not head out to the Neshaminy Mall Carnival? Admission is free, but unlimited ride wristbands are $35. The carnival promises to have all the standard fare – food stands, rides, and games. The website also notes – no unaccompanied minors, so, if you want your kids to go, you’re going to need to be there as well.

If you feel like staying in, there is a cult classic refresh being released on Amazon Prime this weekend: The Kids in the Hall. All of the 90’s fashion is back, so it’s time to bring back this classic. You’ll see familiar faces who have since become much bigger stars. The Kids in the Hall is a Lorne Michaels produced sketch comedy. There were 5 original seasons that ran from 1989 until 1995, with a movie, Brain Candy, that came out in 1996. This Canadian sketch comedy is decidedly different than SNL and other Lorne Michaels vehicles. I suggest watching at least one season of the original TKINH before venturing into the new season, which features them today, a full 27 years after the final season in 1995.

Saturday, May 21st, 11 a.m. New Hope’s Annual Pride Parade returns again this year. If you’ve never been, the parade begins at Lambertville City Hall, where the first gay marriages were performed in 2013. The parade marches across the bridge into New Hope. Following the parade, stay for the Pride Fair, from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fair promises to have live music, vendors, food and drinks (bring your ID for alcoholic beverages), games and all around fun. There is a suggested donation of $5, which benefits New Hope Celebrates.

Sunday, May 22, All Day – It may not be listed as a planned event out on the “Interwebs,” but I highly suggest getting out on the water on Sunday. The weather looks to be hot and sunny. Whether you like tubing or kayaking, canoeing or paddleboarding, I think Sunday is the day. Head out to one of the state parks – Nockamixon, Neshaminy, Tyler, Delaware Canal, Washington Crossing or others. Find water. Put self in water.
