For too long, Bucks County mainstream media has neglected progressive voices in the community while turning a blind eye to, and in many cases accommodating, an increasingly extremist right wing. As a result, we have seen Proud Boys welcomed by local Republicans, book banning become in vogue, and a number of Bucks County Trump supporters participate in the Jan. 6 insurrection.
That’s why local independent reporting matters, and why the Bucks County Beacon needs your support.
The Beacon has two goals. First, it is to shine a light on the backwards and reactionary politics, policies, and behavior that have turned Bucks County into a nationally recognized political circus.
We have been doing that.
Second, and more importantly, it is to showcase progressive voices, projects, and solutions. To do this, The Bucks County Beacon strives to be a reader-supported, popular, and participatory media outlet that acts as a catalyst for community organizing and action, and progressive change.
One way we are doing this is by making our opinion page the go-to hub for local and statewide progressive thought. Check it out HERE.
But we need your financial support in order to not only sustain, but grow this media project for the long haul. Please consider becoming a monthly sustainer, or contributing a one-time donation of your choosing.
Here’s what your financial support will help us do:
Expand our paid staff.
Offer competitive freelance rates.
Hire an election reporting fellow to focus on the PA01 Congressional race.
Expand our school board and local election coverage.
Pay our Op Ed contributors.
With your support, we will be able to provide more hard-hitting reporting more frequently. We even scooped Gannett’s Bucks County Courier Times and The Intelligencer newspapers when we exposed Republican election fraud. And this was a tip from a reader.
Please continue to reach out. We listen, then report!
And you know what, these two daily newspapers still haven’t covered this story. Speaks volumes, right? Never mind their horrible editorial take, or rather attack, on grassroots Democrats. The Bucks County Beacon responded and set the record straight.
That’s why your support of the Beacon is an investment in a progressive future for Bucks County – a future where we as a community continue to make strides in achieving social, economic, and racial justice with an environmentally sustainable future.
