Looking for something to do this weekend? We’ve got you covered.
new hope railroad train ride

Friday, October 14: There aren’t many tickets left at this point, but tonight the New Hope Railroad is having their Halloween Express train ride, a spooky train ride that is only recommended for those 13 years of age and older. The train ride is approximately forty minutes long, and is a roundtrip ride leaving from the New Hope Train Station. They really don’t tell you about what’s on the train, except for saying, “Our creatures are sure to frighten the strongest of heart, and test the nerve of all onboard.” It’s not a cheap ride, with a single ticket costing $75.88 plus fees. It must be pretty good though, as both the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. rides are sold out for tonight. Buy your ticket for the 7 p.m. ride here. The New Hope Railroad is located at 32 West Bridge Street in New Hope.

For something completely different, or maybe how you manage to go on the train ride without your kids, Barn Nature Center is hosting a Parent’s Night Out tonight. You can drop off your kids for 4 hours, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., to go enjoy a night out. Your kids will enjoy pizza and popcorn, a movie, crafts and fun with animals, and the activities will be Halloween themed. Cost per child for the full four hours is $35, but you get a discount for additional children. Barn Nature Center is located at 1283 Almhouse Road in Doylestown.

Saturday, October 15: Yardley Beer and Wine Festival is happening from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. It looks like there are 20 beer and wine vendors, with most being beer. Beyond the beer, there will also be food vendors and live music. The event is at Fitzgerald Field on South Delaware Avenue in Yardley. Regular tickets for the event are $50, but there is also a First Tap ticket which gives you early access at 11 a.m. as well as a swag bag. If you’re going to be there as a designated driver, your ticket is $10. You can order your ticket online here.

If a beer festival doesn’t suit your fancy, the 46th Annual Historic Bristol Day is also Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you like being on the water, and you like boats, this is going to be for you. There will be historical tours, crafters and other vendors, antique boats, a sailing regatta, a car show, and a food court by the river. There really are too many activities to list them all, so here is the map and schedule. Check the map for the locations of the various activities in downtown Bristol borough.

Sunday, October 16: Peddler’s Village is hosting their Scarecrow Shuffle race, which includes various distances – 8K, 5K, 2 miles and a kid’s half mile fun run. If you’ve never tried to convert kilometers to miles, 8K is just shy of 5 miles and a 5K is 3.1 miles. When it comes to running races, the most fun is all the extras that come with running the race. If you choose to participate in the Scarecrow Shuffle, they suggest dressing up like a scarecrow, or dressing up in German attire (think Oktoberfest). There is nothing more fun than a race where everyone is wearing funny outfits. I personally would never combine running with hay in my clothes, so I’d be opting for a dirndl or lederhosen. Of course, with costumes come contests, so make that outfit great. You could even reuse the costume for Halloween in a couple weeks. The race starts at 9 a.m. with the kids fun run, followed by the other distances at 9:10, 9:15 and 9:20.

After the race, there will be tons of fun activities including German-themed food and entertainment, and a race bib coupon to use at a restaurant at Peddler’s Village. Peddler’s Village currently has their Scarecrows in the Village display of over one hundred scarecrows, but this weekend is also Oktoberfeast featuring German food, food trucks, live music, a beer garden, and more. If you plan to sign up for the race, you should register as soon as possible. There are only a couple slots left. The race location is approximately 2449 Street Road in New Hope, but here is the GPS.

Have a great weekend!
