The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 endorsed State Representative Jared Solomon for Attorney General of Pennsylvania Wednesday.
“Our members know Jared’s strong pro-worker record in Harrisburg of preserving workers’ rights, raising the minimum wage, and investing in workforce development programs that benefit workers,” said UFCW 1776 President Wendell Young IV in a press release.
Solomon is running on a “good government” platform and currently represents the 202nd district in Philadelphia, which includes parts of Wissoming, Castor Gardens and Tacony neighborhoods in the northeast. VoteVets, Reps. Matt Bradford and Dan Miller, the majority leader and majority whip in the state House of Representatives, among others, previously endorsed him.
Solomon was raised by a single mother who, thanks to her union job, was able to provide for him on her own, he said in the press release.
“That’s why as Attorney General I’ll take on the bad apple-employers who cheat their workers, including those who fail to carry workman’s compensation insurance or those who intentionally misclassify workers as independent contractors,” said Solomon.
He previously voted to waive citizenship requirements for immigrants who want to teach if they are already authorized to work in the United States and to allow some disqualified commercial truck drivers to get their commercial license reinstated.
UFCW Local 1776 represents over 30,000 workers in Pennsylvania’s Wine and Spirits Shops, grocery stores, drugstores, food processing plants, manufacturing facilities, nursing homes and medical cannabis facilities.
Solomon is running against Keir Bradford-Grey, the former chief defender at the Defender Association of Philadelphia, Eugene DePasquale, former auditor general, Joe Khan, former Bucks County solicitor, and Jack Stollsteimer, Delaware County’s current District Attorney.
The primary election is on April 23.
