A new year brings with it changes in leadership poised to make a positive impact on Bucks County.
The Bucks County Branch of the NAACP is marking a historic milestone with its Executive Officer Installation Ceremony, held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Doylestown for the first time in its 73-plus-year history. The event, facilitated by the Honorable Judge Clyde Waite, will include a keynote address by State Representative Gina H. Curry. Open to the public, this ceremony highlights the organization’s continued commitment to inclusivity and progress.
Among those being appointed on Tuesday is Adrienne King of Perkasie, who will assume the role of President of the NAACP Bucks County Branch. Adrienne’s contributions to the community are well-documented. As the founder and president of The PairUP Society — a nonprofit supporting underrepresented students—and co-founder of the Ridge Network, which mobilized voters to counter extremism in the Pennridge School District, Adrienne has consistently demonstrated her commitment to equity and justice. Additionally, she is a local business owner, further deepening her community connections.
With her new role, Adrienne is poised to extend her reach and impact, and we spoke with her to learn more about her journey and vision.
How many years have you been a part of the NAACP Bucks County Branch?
I have been an active member of the NAACP Bucks County Branch since 2020. My husband and I became life-members in 2022. In that time, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate on a number of initiatives that aim to address systemic barriers in our schools and create opportunities for students through the NAACP Bucks County scholarship program.
What roles have you had in the organization?
I’ve served as a co-lead of the Education Committee, focusing on two critical areas:
Schools: I’ve worked to promote the implementation of anti-racist policies, practices, and foster a climate and culture of inclusivity within schools. This includes providing education about racism and offering support and advocacy for students and families who experience racism, ensuring they feel heard and supported.
Public Outreach: I’ve also been dedicated to increasing public engagement toward the elimination of racism. By hosting workshops, community events, and fostering dialogue, we’ve been able to amplify awareness and drive action toward creating a more equitable and inclusive community.
These roles have allowed me to directly support students and their families, providing advocacy and resources to navigate challenges and opportunities. They have also provided opportunities to collaborate with educators and administrators to create more equitable and inclusive environments, ensuring that every student has the chance to thrive in a safe and supportive learning space.
Why is now the time for you to take this new role as President of the organization?
The leadership of the NAACP Bucks County Branch has traditionally been based in the lower part of the county. With me residing in the upper part, this presents an opportunity to expand the organization’s visibility and reach across the entire county. Serving in this organization has given me valuable insight into the diverse experiences and challenges faced by communities depending on where they live in Bucks County.
This is a critical time, as we are witnessing increasing backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, as well as hateful acts targeting underrepresented members of our community.

Additionally, we face legislative challenges that seek to undermine progress in these areas. In light of these challenges, it’s more important than ever to stand firm in our advocacy and continue pushing for the values that make Bucks County a fairer, more just place for all. The NAACP Bucks County will be a key player in defending the rights and freedoms of all citizens, ensuring that we stay on track to achieve true equity and justice.
What’s your vision for how the NAACP Bucks County Branch can improve the lives of all citizens of Bucks County?
My vision aligns with the mission of the NAACP Bucks County Branch: to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights for all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and discrimination. We aim to create a more inclusive and equitable Bucks County by dismantling systemic barriers and ensuring everyone has access to opportunities to thrive.
This includes advocating for a world-class education and safe learning environments for all students, promoting equitable economic policies, and addressing disparities in health and environmental justice. By amplifying the voices of all communities and working collaboratively with partners, we can make Bucks County a model for equity, unity, and progress.
As President, I am committed to expanding the NAACP’s presence in Central and Upper Bucks County, areas where awareness of the organization has been limited. This involves fostering stronger community connections, providing meaningful representation, and inspiring others to step into leadership roles to further the organization’s mission.
My leadership journey began with advocating for my daughters and has since expanded to address the broader needs of our community. The NAACP Bucks County helped me to find my voice and I hope my example inspires others to use their voices for meaningful change. I am deeply passionate about creating a sense of belonging, empowering individuals who feel unheard or unrepresented, and building bridges to strengthen community relationships.
The NAACP Bucks County Branch will continue to honor its legacy and lead with purpose, working toward a future where all residents have equal rights, opportunities, and the chance to thrive in a unified and equitable community.
