Forging lifelong friendships, exploring the great outdoors, learning about nature and having old-fashioned fun are part of summer camp experiences hosted by Snipes Farm and Education Center.
According to this year’s camp announcement, games in the big pasture, blueberry and blackberry picking, learning and honing archery skills, feeding goats, chickens and rabbits, building forts and exploring the creek are among campers’ favorite activities.
The summer day camp program was founded about 18 years ago. The mission of Snipes farm camps is to serve as many children as possible, with a resulting robust camp scholarship program meant to make sure no child is left without lively summertime fun.
In fact, this year’s scholarship program is more urgent than ever.
“There are additional financial pressures this year on families, and we get more and more requests for scholarships every day,” said Melanie Douty-Snipes, director of education at Snipes Farm and Education Center.
How can you help?
Douty-Snipes said in addition to individual donations and support; businesses, foundations and Bucks County government support helps serve kids from low-income families and those living in challenging circumstances. Youngsters are often connected to camp through schools and faith organizations, she added.
A partnership with Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter has allowed even more youngsters to attend summer day camp at Snipes.

Douty-Snipes said what began nearly two decades ago with a handful of kids on scholarships has grown to include about 60 scholarship student recipients able to attend summer farm day camp.
“It is heartening and inspiring to see the long list of donors every year making a difference in the lives of our campers … this wonderful opportunity lifts children’s spirits, helps them to leave whatever burdens they may have behind and step onto the beauty and magic of a working farm with camp friends,” Douty-Snipes explained.

As campers grow up, they can remain part of the summer farm camp program by becoming big brothers and sisters to younger campers; enjoy citizen science projects, make camp snack recipes and tackle special farm and animal projects, according to Douty-Snipes.
“Environmental education introduces children to the wonders of nature … Campers gain skills and delight through cooking and gardening. Camp is the world we make together where all are welcome,” she said. “Who doesn’t want to send a kid to camp.”
Anyone can donate; any amount makes a difference. Consider making a donation to support sending a child to Snipes Farm and Education Center summer day camp.
