For 20 years, The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance has been expanding the local and sustainable food supply in Bucks County. To celebrate two decades of serving the community, they are offering extra farm tours to ring in the summer! The BCFA partners with local farmers to make these tours possible.
The BCFA’s mission is to bring people closer together while educating communities on sustainable and healthy foods. The BCFA also hosts the Doylestown and Wrightstown Farmers Markets, encouraging people to buy food from local suppliers. Through their partnership, these farmers markets are able to accept SNAP to actively fight food insecurity.
“The tours offer a deeper understanding of how much work, ingenuity, and planning it takes to run a farm,” said BCFA Secretary Lorraine Sharaf. “They also help people better understand the connection between healthy soil, healthy farms and the nutritious food that ends up on our tables.”
The tours will be offered the first Wednesday and Sunday of each month, with Wednesday’s tours focusing on the “founding farms” and Sunday’s focusing on the “new farms”.
Before each tour, a potluck will be hosted with participants encouraged to bring a dish to share with the group.
“We hope people leave not only with new knowledge, but also with a deeper appreciation for the farmers, farmland, and agricultural traditions that nourish our community,” said Sharaf. “And with a clearer understanding of why supporting local agriculture is an investment in the health, resilience and future of Bucks County.
