From increasing self esteem and scaling tools for building healthy relationships to experiences in team building and leadership, Girls Empowered, a nonprofit organization in Doylestown, offers programs to enrich and empower young girls.
Girls Empowered will run summer day camps for girls entering Grades 4-9 in June and July.
Camp Girl Power is for those entering Grades 4-6; while Camp Leadership Program serves those in Grades 7-9.
“Camp Girl Power was designed to be a fun and interactive camp with the goal of providing girls with the skills to be empowered in the 21st century,” said Dawn Haaz, CEO and founder of Girls Empowered.
What began in 2014 after one successful summer Camp Girl Power program grew to provide youngsters offerings throughout the year.
Haaz said promoting self esteem, healthy relationships, communication and team building are hallmarks of all Girls Empowered programming.
Camp Girl Power campers will work with program guests and build confidence and a variety of skills.
Girls Leadership Program aims to focus on leadership skills for those entering Grades 7-9 in the fall, according to Haaz.
“Girls Leadership skills can [translate] for sports teams, student council or to leadership roles among peers” while providing camp and program participants the skills to lead a group and their own activities with assurance and confidence,” Haaz said.
Team building exercises help illustrate the traits needed to be an effective leader; while forming strategies for solid decision making along with handling everyday stresses and time management are essential qualities in leadership – and in life.
Girls Leadership Program campers will organize and carry out a philanthropic project, which includes a strong community service component by design.
“We’ve done clothing and food drives; school supplies, book drives, and donations to families and organizations,” Haaz said.
