CASA in Action has announced a list of Pennsylvania leaders committed to advancing and protecting immigrant communities and working-class families.
The list includes Gov. Josh Shapiro and Democratic House Representatives Carol Hill-Evans (HD-95), Ismail Smith-Wade-El (HD-49) and Brad Chambers (HD-41).
Democrat Sara Agerton, also endorsed by CASA, is running against Republican candidate Jeffrey Clark to represent House District 88, which includes Cumberland County. Incumbent Republican Sheryl Delozier announced in January she would not seek re-election, Politics PA reported.
“The endorsed candidates represent the kind of leadership Pennsylvania needs,” said Mirna Gonzalez, Pennsylvania organizing director for CASA in Action. “Leaders who show up for working families, protect the rights of immigrants and fight for equitable access to livable wages, affordable housing, and affordable healthcare, regardless of where they come from.”
In 2022, CASA hosted a rally with Shapiro where he spoke directly to members about keeping the commonwealth inclusive and the importance of building coalitions across the state.
CASA endorsed Shapiro first gubernatorial candidancy, and now his second term candidacy, because they believe he is committed to investing in public education and defending fundamental freedoms for all Americans.
Hill-Evans and Agerton are previous CASA endorsed candidates.
Hill-Evans was endorsed again by CASA for her consistent work protecting the rights of women, immigrants and people of color. Agerton has been endorsed again for her focus on affordable healthcare, education, women’s reproductive rights and housing justice.

Smith-Wade-El and Chambers are both newly endorsed CASA candidates.
Smith-Wade-El was chosen for his equity and housing justice advocacy. Chambers continues to support public education reform, expanding access to affordable healthcare and improving housing stability.
The group also separately announced on July 16 that it is endorsing James Malone (SD-36) for re-election, the first Latino Pennsylvania State Senator.
“James Malone understands that strong communities are built by investing in people, protecting fundamental rights, and ensuring every Pennsylvanian has the opportunity to thrive,” said Gonzalez. “With so much at stake in this election, we’re proud to stand with a candidate who has demonstrated his commitment through action and who will continue fighting for the communities we represent. We are proud to endorse his candidacy in this critical election.”
CASA in Action is an individual membership organization focused on mobilizing Black, Latinx, indigenous and immigrant voters. By endorsing these candidates, CASA signals to members those candidates who support the organization’s values and mission ahead of the next election.
