Morrisville School District has found their new board member.
After a summer of searching, Jodi Thompson was sworn in by the Morrisville School Board of Directors on Sept. 2.
Thompson has lived in the borough for over 41 years and is the parent of two Morrisville graduates. She said that the district gave her sons a good foundation.
“One is a structural engineer and the other a government attorney,” Thompson said. “They’re raising families in other cities and states now.”
Supporting public education is important in Thompson’s family. Her father was a longtime member of Neshaminy School District’s Board of Directors.
The former journalist and writer had long considered joining the board to support her community, but work got in the way.
“I’d often thought of serving but life can be busy,” Thompson said. “Now I’m retired and when a community member called asking if I’d apply, I felt an obligation.”
Unlike a standard Morrisville board member term — which lasts four years — Thompson is stepping in to fill a board vacancy and will serve the district for the final 15 months of that vacancy.
With a short term, Thompson said she is not wanting to implement any big changes. She simply hopes to help keep the board up and running.
“I’d like for students, teachers, staff, and parents to see Morrisville schools as a safe community of growth, learning and even fun experiences,” Thompson said.
