Bucks County is where the political future of Pennsylvania — and the nation — is decided. As the quintessential swing county in the ultimate battleground state, Bucks is the hinge point on which our entire democracy turns.
But Bucks County is also Ground Zero for the real-world economic challenges facing working families: skyrocketing monthly utility bills, gas prices past $4 a gallon and unchecked AI data center proposals that threaten to overload our electric grid and pollute our local air.
For too long, working families across Bucks County have felt the squeeze of an energy affordability crisis. Electricity bills have jumped by more than $500 a year for typical households, while multi-billion-dollar Big Tech corporations and corporate utilities treat our communities as profit engines.
With Donald Trump openly prioritizing billionaire Big Tech CEOs and oil executives at the expense of working people, our state government in Harrisburg must step up to protect us.
Unfortunately, legislative progress on lowering energy costs, reining in data centers and protecting our clean air and drinking water has been blocked in Harrisburg. While the pro-environment majority in the state House of Representatives passed landmark consumer protection and energy affordability legislation — like House Bill 1834 to force data center developers to pay for their own electric grid upgrades — the anti-environment majority in the state Senate has stalled these measures at every turn.
Controlled by politicians who kowtow to billionaire campaign donors and corporate utility lobbyists, Senate Republicans have repeatedly refused to bring ratepayer relief to a vote.
To break this legislative gridlock, we need to replace obstructionists who protect corporate special interests with environmental champions who will go to work every day fighting to lower our energy prices, reign in data centers and protect our clean air, water and open space.
We need to expand our incredibly narrow two-vote pro-environment majority in the state House and elect the first pro-environment majority in the state Senate in decades.
That is why Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania is proudly calling on voters to support our slate of endorsed state legislative champions, featured on the Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania 2026 Endorsements Guide.
These candidates are ready to hit the ground running on day one.
Among them is Tim Hayes, running for State Representative in House District 143. Tim is an Army National Guard veteran, Dublin Borough Council President and dedicated environmental policy expert who has worked directly with our team at CVPA for years as our state policy manager, fighting for clean energy, open space preservation and lower utility costs.
Leaders like Tim understand that placing strict guardrails on data centers and expanding access to cheaper, clean energy are the only way we will lower electricity prices for working families and local businesses.
We have a historic opportunity to flip other key seats with courageous challengers across Bucks County:
- Eileen Albillar (Senate District 6): Running to unseat an entrenched incumbent who supports the Senate leadership’s blockade of policies that put working families ahead of corporate utility profits, Eileen brings a deep background in community organizing and human services, dedicated to putting working families over CEOs.
- Mark Pinsley (Senate District 16): Ready to bring real accountability, consumer protection and clean energy solutions to Upper Bucks and Lehigh counties while replacing an incumbent who pretends to support data center protections while actually standing with her leadership in blocking legislation that could lower energy prices now.
- Monica Weninger (House District 178): Stepping up to give Central Bucks residents a true champion who will hold Big Tech accountable rather than shifting grid upgrade costs onto local households.
Alongside proven incumbent leaders across the county, like Rep. Brian Munroe in HD-144, these challengers offer a clear alternative to out-of-touch politicians who voted against protecting local ratepayers from data center cost-shifting.
