The Bucks County Opportunity Council announced the grand opening for its latest location, the Central Bucks Opportunity Center, which will be held this Friday.
The ribbon cutting for the center will be at 1:15, with remarks made by BCOC leadership and local elected officials, followed by an open house that will go until 4 p.m. The opening will be at the Bailiwick Office Campus, 252 W. Swamp Rd., Suite 5, Doylestown, PA.
“Together under one roof, we now can meet a variety of needs specific to each client. The site will offer services to meet the needs of the community, including emergency services of eviction prevention and utility assistance, housing link services, economic self-sufficiency programs, and weatherization for improved home energy conservation. The administrative functions for the Food Program are also operating out of this centralized location,” said Joseph Cuozzo, the Development Director of BCOC.
The center will be used to help low-income families in Central Bucks who are seeking support for housing, food, weatherization of houses, Volunteer Income Tax Preparation, and The Economic Self-Sufficiency Program. The Center will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those seeking support. Call-ahead or walk-in appointments are available, and services are based on income requirements set forth by guidelines. Staff coaches will be able to determine the level of assistance per client, according to the BCOC.
The Bucks County Opportunity Council was one of over 1,000 created in 1965 as part of President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty. In the 59 years of the organization’s existence, they have worked to help low-income families, “by helping them to stabilize when in crisis, garner resources to achieve a livable wage, gain additional education and training, and work towards economic self-sufficiency.” The BCOC also believes that everyone can achieve economic self-sufficiency if they are given the education and training, which they aim to do.
