The Bucks County Opportunity Council kicks off its 25th annual Back-to-School Drive equipping students with the resources they need to start the school year. The local nonprofit is asking for sponsors to donate gift cards and school supplies for low-income families.
BCOC, the lead anti-poverty, non-profit organization in Bucks County, matches sponsors with student and asks for a $100 donation minimum. Gift card donations are preferred for the family to shop together. Sponsors can donate backpacks, lunch bags and school supplies. Donations can be dropped off at any of BCOC’s four office locations — Bristol, Doylestown, Quakertown, and Warminster — until the deadline of Friday, Aug. 8.
In last year’s drive, BCOC supported 160 students providing them with the necessary school supplies to ease the stress of back-to-school shopping for families.
“This is something we always must brace for when the school years starts, but with the help of the BCOC, I can buy all the supplies I need for my two children, plus I can save some money for other necessary expenses, like clothing and shoes,” said T.D., a parent supported by the drive.

BCOC’s mission is to serve low-income families and reduce poverty by connecting people with the resources they need. The organization uses its five major programs — Housing, Food, Weatherization, Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) and the Economic Self-Sufficiency (ES) Program — to provide resources and a path to financial stability for families.
