The Bucks County Opportunity Council (BCOC) provides annual income tax preparation to low-income residents and has appointments for services available now through April 15 to qualified applicants.
The program is provided by the federal Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, or VITA, with IRS-certified volunteers providing the assistance.
Local program supporters include the Bucks County Foundation and First National Bank & Trust Co. of Newtown. “Their contributions have helped to keep this program running locally for 21 years,” the BCOS said in a press release.
All five Bucks County official locations offer these services. There are two locations in Bristol, and one each in Doylestown, Quakertown and Newtown, a BCOC press release said.
To be eligible, residents must have a household income of $69,000 per year or less for an individual or combined family.
Volunteers are trained on federal, state and local tax laws, along with available tax credits for low and moderate-income families. These include: the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.
According to BCOC, “Dedicated volunteers make this program possible, spending nights and weekends learning the ins and outs of tax preparation.”
In 2025, BCOC tax preparer volunteers completed 1,577 returns with more than $2.3 million refunds, tax credits and saved preparation fees.
Appointments are required. To request an appointment visit VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – Bucks County Opportunity Council.
