Every four years county representatives across Pennsylvania are voted to serve four years on state committees for both Democrats and Republicans.
Thirteen representatives for the Bucks County Democratic Committee will join colleagues from across the commonwealth to help shape the party’s platform; support, organize and endorse candidates for elected office across the commonwealth.
The Bucks County Republican Committee has also released its slate of endorsed candidates.
The number of representatives from each county sent to the state committee is driven by the number of registered voters to each party in each county. Each county chair is a voting state committee member, Lehigh County Democrats said.
Zach Kirk, executive director of the Bucks County Democratic Committee said this year’s roster was built with the intention to provide a “complete and balanced slate” representing the length and breadth of Bucks County’s residents.
“We were looking to build out a complete and balanced slate. That means having some people with state committee experience, and some newcomers. There are folks that have spent years involved with campaigns or municipal organizations, and people that have started to get involved and wanted a way to get more involved,” Kirk said.
Bucks County began its representatives’ selection process last year by fielding applications, administering a written questionnaire and conducting brief candidate interviews, he said.
“Ultimately the goal was to have a slate of 13 candidates that could represent all of Bucks County at the state level, and I believe this group of 13 will do exactly that,” Kirk said.
In this role, county representatives serve as a conduit between the county party and the state party; while not legislative positions those elected serve four year terms and provide valued input and roles within the state party.
County party representatives are elected in the primary elections in the same year the governor is elected, Kirk said.

“When done right, state committee members add a lot of value to our county party….and there is expertise from counties all over Pennsylvania. State committee members help share that knowledge so that all counties can improve, and we can build a stronger party everywhere,” Kirk added.
A county representative’s responsibilities include: electing party leadership, endorsing candidates and organizing campaigns, a Bucks Democratic Committee press release said.
