The hand-counting of ballots threatens to delay results by days, weeks or even months, and is more prone to error.
The hours and days immediately after voting ends could offer foreign adversaries like Russia, Iran and China or domestic extremist groups the best chance to mess with America’s decision through disinformation.
The crimes include efforts to persuade former Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify the counting of the electoral votes on the afternoon of Jan. 6, 2021.
