Mark Pinsley

Seeking Office: Senator in the General Assembly

Party: Democratic

Primary Ballot: Democratic

District: 16th Senatorial District

Currently serving as Lehigh County Controller

Bio:

Mark Pinsley is the Lehigh County Controller, serving his second term after first being elected in 2019. A private sector executive, U.S. Army Reserves veteran, and former South Whitehall Township Commissioner, Pinsley has built a reputation as a fiscal watchdog and progressive outsider. As controller, his aggressive auditing of healthcare spending, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and youth services saved taxpayers millions. Initially launching a bid for Congress in PA-07 earlier this cycle, he pivoted back to the competitive 16th State Senate District primary, positioning himself as a candidate focused on corporate accountability and structural government reform.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Finance, Northeastern University (1996); Master of Business Administration (MBA), Indiana University Kelley School of Business (2002).
Occupation: Lehigh County Controller; President/Owner of DermaMed Solutions (skincare medical equipment manufacturer).
Key Issues: Mark Pinsley’s platform is centered on healthcare cost transparency, tax equity, and corporate accountability. Drawing on his county controller audits—where he aggressively targeted overspending on state-contracted pharmacy benefit managers like CVS Caremark—he campaigns heavily to lower prescription drug costs and increase public oversight of major healthcare conglomerates. He champions structural tax overhauls like the “Equal Tax Act” to shift the local tax burden away from working-class families and onto corporate wealth, while pushing to change state funding formulas to relieve regional property tax pressures. A staunch defender of reproductive rights, Pinsley advocates for codifying abortion protections into state law. His community platform also features strong support for public education, including universal free school meals, enhanced workforce development programs, and strict state-level guardrails for emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
