A new report by Education Voters of Pennsylvania found a pattern of discrimination based on LGBTQ+ status, disability, religion, and more – discrimination that would never be allowed in public schools.
Upset with Republicans cutting library staff in half while approving a million dollar district-wide armed police force, as well as ramming through the appointment of a controversial superintendent – voters said enough!
A top goal of the new board, led by Democratic President Ron Wurz and Republican Vice President Christine Batycki, is to support all students in the district.
School-based arrests are one part of the school-to-prison pipeline, through which students – especially Black and Latine students and those with disabilities – are pushed out of their schools and into the legal system.
Many Langhorne residents are strongly opposed to its 60-townhome development plan, fearing it will erode the area’s historic character and add to traffic problems.
Over the last several months, school board meetings have been marked by intense disagreements among directors, highlighting what became a stubborn 5 to 4 majority split.
After months of unanswered pleas from parents and teachers, it took a Democratic sweep at the polls on Election Day for the school board to finally get the message.
The 77-page filing alleges Pennridge administrators and the school board ignored or dismissed incidents of discrimination and harassment spanning many years.
The decision is the second federal court ruling that Act 77’s ballot-dating requirement violates the Civil Rights Act.
