Sanders joined Pennsylvania unions at a raucous rally where he laid out a vision for a progressive populism that Democrats could run on both locally and nationally.
Still, teachers, families and advocates remain concerned about the stability of Head Start. The Trump administration is closing several regional offices and laying off the staff who support the program, which has led to funding delays that threatened to close individual preschools.
“We should be expanding access, not taking it away. Every child deserves a fair and equitable start, and I’ll fight in Congress to protect programs like Head Start that make that possible,” said Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie, a Democratic candidate for Congress in PA-01.
“If you read the news a lot last year, you might have seen that we made history with the largest state [funding] increase ever. However, it only filled 11 percent of the total gap in funding that our schools need,” said Children First’s Priyanka Reyes-Kaura.
In Philadelphia, medetomidine was detected in 72% of illegal opioid samples tested late last year, overtaking xylazine, which has complicated the U.S. response to the opioid crisis.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Stage United to bring these performances to the Borough,” said Caitlin Hernandez, director of Parks & Recreation in the Doylestown Borough.
The union has been at odds with the company for years over working conditions for drivers and warehouse staff.
“We want him [Fitzpatrick] to stand for the rule of law, which means due process for anyone being removed from our country, and we want him to publicly denounce these abuses and fight to ensure that constitutional rights are upheld for everyone.”
The vigil will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. rain or shine at the corners of State and Main Streets.
