For the first time in approximately three and a half years, the entire Bucks County Democratic Committee convened to elect a new chairman and executive officers. And by an overwhelming majority of votes, Pennsylvania State Senator Steve Santarsiero will assume the role of chairman effective immediately.
Santarsiero has been an active member of the Bucks County Democratic party for close to 20 years serving in an array of positions including Lower Makefield township supervisor, state representative, the first chief deputy attorney general for environmental protection in the commonwealth, and in his current role as state senator.
Also elected were the following executive directors: Vice Chair Georgette Helbling, Secretary Karen Vander Laan, Treasurer Jennifer Herring, and Comptroller Steve Wojciechowski.
New deputy chairs and directors to round out the administration remain pending.
The meeting and subsequent election comes on the heels of the resignation of John Cordisco, who held the position of county committee chairman since 2002.
Sources wishing to remain anonymous have expressed enthusiasm for the party’s new administration and believe today’s appointments will invigorate their efforts and impact across the county.
The Bucks County Democratic Committee is comprised of elected and appointed officials, as well as volunteers representing more than 45 townships and boroughs, who coordinate an assortment of politically related endeavors to elect Democrats at the local, state and federal levels.
