Democrat Heather Boyd will run to represent Pennsylvania’s 163rd House District in a special election on May 16.
Boyd has received the support from local Democrats.
The special election was initiated following the March 16 resignation of Mike Zabel following allegations of sexual harassment earlier in the month. Zabel was first elected to the state house in 2018.
An educator and former school board director, Boyd worked as chief of staff to Representative Leanne Krueger, and more recently as the district director and senior advisor for Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon.
“Working in the state and federal government, I’ve seen firsthand how listening to the people makes democracy work. I have the experience necessary to get results for our community on day one,” Boyd said.
As a school board director, Boyd was instrumental in implementing programs to promote educational success, including free breakfast and lunch for all students to ensure that the ability to learn was not minimized by hunger.
“As a former teacher and local mom, I am running to make sure that every person and family in our district gets the resources and representation they deserve. I will work tirelessly to make sure residents of the 163rd District have a seat at the table in Harrisburg,” she added.
Boyd will face off against Republican Katie Ford.
