In an era where live music has priced out attendees with everything from tickets to food prices, going to concerts has felt more like a financial burden then a fun family event. Thankfully, if you live in the Bucks County area, there is an alternative option.
Thanks to the work of Stage United founder Joe Montone, Concerts at the Commons will be back for a second year at the Broad Commons Park in Doylestown. Every Thursday in May starting at 6 p.m., the Commons will be opened for the audience, with music beginning at 6:50. The best part? The concerts are free and open to all ages. Guests are encouraged to bring their lawn chair or blanket to this pet-friendly event. And the Bucks County Parking Garage is just feet away, making parking and leaving very easy if you have to drive.
Headlining the first show on May 7 is acclaimed singer-songwriter Sug Daniels.
The Philadelphia-based musician thoughtfully combines elements of folk, rock, and soul to create personal and tender music interlaced with messages of truth and positive change. She will be joined by anthemic vocalist and songwriter Clover Stieve of Frenchtown, NJ.
Surprise guests for night two on May 14 will be announced later this month. However, opening the night will be Doylestown’s own spacey jazz fusion trio Colacore.
Hailing from upstate New York, folk rockers Driftwood headline night three, May 21, with Katelynn Capser of Serene Green kicking off the show.
South Jersey rock quartet Fat Mezz closes out the spring concerts on May 28 with special guests Hay Sugar of Doylestown. The series then continues in September.
“As a lifelong Bucks County resident, it is an honor to produce Concerts at the Commons alongside the Doylestown Borough,” says Montone. “We are so excited to feature FOUR nights of live music for all ages with a dynamic palate of sounds each night.”
For food and drink options, Neshaminy Creek Brewing Co. and Main Street Sport & Social will be providing beverages, with a complete list of food trucks coming soon. The event is also sponsored by Fred Beans Automotive Group, C&N Bank, The Monkey’s Uncle, and The Lisa Povlow Team, Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty.
Stage United was founded in 2024 by Montone to help introduce artists and audiences filling a cultural void, as there is hardly any original music programming for all ages in the area. More information about the concert series and Stage United can be found at stageunited.org.
