Despite the threat of legal action, the Bucks County Sheriff’s office moves forward with the 287(g) program that will allow local deputies to act as de facto ICE agents.
The Democratic congressman hopes his Republican colleague Brian Fitzpatrick will vote against a budget that looks to gut social programs like Medicaid and SNAP that millions of families rely on.
“It’s easy to mock this legislation because it’s so inane and embarrassing — and we have,” said Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA).
If ICE approves the 287(g) “task force model” application and the sheriff moves forward without the commissioners’ green light, legal action will be imminent and “Bucks County taxpayers will be on the hook.”
