She’s not wasting any time. Ashley Ehasz announced her candidacy Thursday for the upcoming 2024 congressional race to represent Pennsylvania’s First District.

“Taking on Brian Fitzpatrick — one of the most well-connected congressional incumbents in the country — isn’t going to be easy,” wrote Ehasz in a tweet. “That’s why we’re laying the groundwork early to come back stronger with the full force of our grassroots movement.”

In 2022 Ehasz, a Democrat, ran to represent PA-01 but lost to Republican Brian Fitzpatrick. She is a graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and a former Apache helicopter pilot who went on to command troops in Kuwait, Iraq, and South Korea. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Oxford on the GI Bill and resides in Bensalem.

“I’m proud to support Ashley. She is someone who is a true patriot and cares about the people of PA-01,” said Connor O’Hanlon, Chair of the Doylestown Democrats and host of the Greater Society Podcast. “I know that she will stand up for all of us, not the special interests. She will fight to protect reproductive rights, ensure economic prosperity for all, and bring a voice to Washington that represents a new generation of leadership.”

Responsible gun control continues to be a foundational piece of her campaign platform. In 2022 Ehasz referred to gun violence as a public health crisis and the need for common sense legislation to protect people, communities and schools.

“Indivisible Bucks County backs candidates who share our values of justice, compassion, equity and inclusion,” said Kierstyn Zolfo (who also writes a column for the Bucks County Beacon). “Throughout her previous candidacy, Ashley Ehasz made it clear by both word and deed that she shares our goal of making our community and our nation a better place for everyone.”

Hanna Jeffrey, a consultant for the 2024 campaign said “the stakes are even higher in 2024 with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the onslaught of right-wing legislation, and a Republican House Majority focused on banning trans athletes instead of solving problems for our families.”

Jeffrey added that PA-01 has been identified as an integral path to a democratic majority in Congress and that Fitzpatrick is blocking an economy that works for everyone, as well as a government that respects the rights of everyone.

“People in Bucks and Montgomery Counties are pragmatic voters, and Brian Fitzpatrick’s extremist right wing agenda focused on protecting Trump and tearing down reproductive rights is not going to fly,” Jeffrey added.
