Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick Is Still Afraid to Speak Out Against Trump

The Bucks County Republican continues to be a profile in cowardice with his spineless response to the federal indictment against the former president for mishandling of classified documents, obstructing justice and making false statements.

The unprecedented federal indictment of a former president for crimes that threaten the national security of the United States and our allies is both sad and sadly not surprising. It is sad that our electorate could have given the Office of the Presidency to a person with a compulsive persistent focus on his own self-aggrandizement and selfish greed, as well as a blatant disregard for the rule of law. But it is sadly not surprising that his actions have sunk to new depths since he has been aided and abetted in his immoral activities by the silence and complicity of both the leadership and the base of the Republican Party, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick included.

There is a fire-hose of lies, transgressions and criminal acts that have emanated from this man that the Republican Party astoundingly still supports for yet another presidential term. I will only enumerate a few here:

Where was the condemnation of this fraudster when he was ordered to pay a $25 million settlement for fraud with respect to Trump University?

Where was the condemnation of this cheater when he was ordered to pay a $2 million settlement for fraud with respect to his “charity” organization?

Where was the condemnation of this misogynist when he was convicted of sexual abuse and defamation of E. Jean Carroll?

These Republican leaders also had two chances to remove this lawbreaker from the White House in two impeachments that clearly outlined several counts of obstruction of justice and an incitement of insurrection. But instead, they chose Party and their own political survival over duty to ethical principles and our Country. In fact, they not only let him continue in office, but allowed him to run for office two more times.

Each failure to hold this self-engrossed, alternate reality spinning charlatan accountable for his misdeeds naturally led to further and more blatant abuses.

And now, a clear and compelling federal indictment has been issued which exhibits his lawless behavior and his flawed belief that he is above all laws even if our very national security is threatened.

Unfortunately, as expected, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has again failed to vigorously call out this latest outrageous criminal behavior of the former  president.

Congressman Fitzpatrick has issued a mealy-mouthed statement of the “wait and see what happens” variety along with a “what-about-ism” about the recent federal indictment of our former president.

This former FBI man has clearly forgotten that the rule of law concerning the handling of our nation’s most sensitive nuclear and defense secrets demands vigorous defense and outrage when violated.

But there is no surprise here. He failed to lead forcefully against Trump’s previous misdeeds  mentioned above. Congressman Fitzpatrick and other Republican “moderate leaders” meekly sit again on the fence not wishing to anger the MAGA crowd whose votes they need, while foolishly hoping that this convicted and indicted lawbreaker will not cross yet another line.

We do not need timid leaders who are afraid or unwilling to speak out against such obvious wrongdoing. Congressman Fitzpatrick and other Republican “moderate leaders” are sadly mice who are afraid to roar when our country now so urgently needs lions who can stare down the criminal character that is threatening our nation’s security and democracy today.

Our democracy can’t afford Congressman Fitzpatrick’s continued cowardice.
