Christian Right Observer Weekly Launches to Unmask Authoritarian Threat ‘Wrapped in a Flag and Carrying a Cross’

The CROW newsletter will educate readers about the growing Christian extremist movement and its crusade for dominion over the United States.

Two Bucks County Beacon contributors are launching a newsletter with an online researcher on the religious right to expose the Christian theocratic movement hell-bent on capturing power and transforming the nation – with or without democracy.

The Christian Right Observer Weekly, or CROW, is a Substack newsletter launching Thursday designed to keep readers informed on this very serious threat.

Bucks County Beacon Editor Cyril Mychalejko, along with Beacon columnist Jennifer Cohn and Christian dominionism researcher Kira, will curate seven stories each week covering how the Christian Right is infiltrating and shaping the following societal spheres: family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government.

“This newsletter complements the work already being done at The Bucks County Beacon raising the alarm about the very dangerous and growing threat of Christian nationalism and extremism,” said Editor Cyril Mychalejko. “Jenny, Kira and I will be curating seven stories each week that we think people need to have on their radar. The goal is to educate so that communities can then organize and mobilize against this existential threat to democracy and social progress.”

Mychalejko also explained that in the coming months there are plans to expand coverage, which will include publishing feature pieces, Q&A’s, multimedia recommendations, and a monthly podcast.

A major player in this movement is the New Apostolic Reformation, or NAR, a well-connected crusade with tentacles extending into big money political action committees, politicians who are funded by those PACs and far-right not-for-profit religious organizations scattered throughout cities and towns across the country. New House Speaker Mike Johnson is even connected to this movement.

“Christian fascism is marching its way toward influencing voters in the 2024 election,” said Kira. “Christian Dominionist churches are organizing in the pews. Dominionist pastors are influencing from the pulpit. Find out which Dominionist organizations and leaders from business to government are aligning in your state with our new Substack newsletter.”

Flourishing unchecked and largely undetected in practically every facet of society, leaders in Christian nationalism have amassed a following large enough to influence domestic policies, as evidenced by the reversal of Roe v. Wade, and future elections at the local, state and national levels.

“Most voters would reject militant Christian supremacy if they knew the extent to which it has already permeated the GOP and MAGA movement,” said Cohn. “The challenge is raising public awareness before the next election because the threat is much more pervasive and dangerous than is generally known.”

Cohn said she hopes the newsletter will raise awareness about the scope of the threat of Christian extremism in America, including the extent to which it has co-opted the Republican Party and MAGA movement, its militant component and the rights and privileges many Americans stand to lose if religious zealots acquire more political power.
