This year, Earth Day falls on a Monday so many events are taking place on Saturday, including at Snipes Farms, who is hosting a family-friendly Earth Day celebration on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Earth Day, an annual event observed on April 22, showcases global support for environmental protection. Originating in 1970, it is now coordinated worldwide by the Earth Day Network.

Snipes Farm will celebrate Mother Earth with songs, stories, and physical work to protect the farm’s natural environment, as it has in previous years.

Kids will have the opportunity to learn about animal care and spring clean-up in the Children’s Garden. Adult activities include helping with field projects, nature trail maintenance, removal of invasive plants, planting of native trees, and all manner of environmental stewardship on the farm.

The farm utilizes sustainable, organic farming practices to preserve the soil’s capacity for food production indefinitely with the majority of organic produce being distributed to local hunger relief initiatives.

By safeguarding and improving the natural areas, including the Snipes Nature Trail that runs adjacent to the farm, the land is a sanctuary for indigenous plant and animal species.
