The first Army-Navy Game policy retreat will be held from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at Huntsman Hall in room G06 at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Hosted by Army Officer Dan Kunze and Patrick J. Murphy, the first Iraq War veteran elected to Congress, the event seeks to increase awareness of the value and numerous contributions veterans offer the corporate world.
The forum includes an array of expert speakers from the business and sports worlds including Houston Astros owner Bob Zlotnik, Wharton Sports Business Initiative Director Michelle Young, Representative Adam Smith (D-WA) of the House Armed Services Committee, former Philadelphia Eagle and 3-time Pro-Bowler Brandon Brooks, and others.
“Dan and I look forward to bringing together some of the brightest minds in the public and private sectors – and of course Eagles legend Brandon Brooks – to discuss a wide array of important topics,” Murphy said.
In addition to Wharton Students, and especially Wharton Veterans, approximately 30 percent of attendees are anticipated to be business owners and others who are interested in the many benefits veterans bring to civic life.
The retreat serves to provide the next generation of business leaders, veterans, members of the business community and attendees of the Army-Navy game with thought-provoking discussions of policy relevant to veterans and their role in society.
Murphy, a Wharton Business School lecturer, served Bucks County constituents representing then-Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District (2007-2011) and later served as the 32nd Under Secretary of the Army.
The forum comes one day prior to Saturday’s 3:00 p.m. kick-off at the annual Army-Navy football game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. This military sports face-off has been hosted by the city 89 times.
