Protecting the environment, safeguarding civil rights, and ensuring public safety are all top priorities for Newtown Township Supervisor Elen Snyder, who announced her candidacy to run in this year’s upcoming municipal election.
Snyder, a six-year resident of Newtown Township, was elected in 2021 to a two-year term to fill the supervisor’s seat vacated by Linda Bobrin.
Working with her colleagues, Snyder was successful in helping to negotiate an agreement between Newtown Township and Borough to guarantee better fire-fighting coverage and serves as a member of the Fire Commission.
In September, the Democratic four-to-one supervisory board voted unanimously to pass a resolution opposing the sale of the Bucks County Sewer Authority to Aqua America.
“Due to the public outcry against probable soaring costs associated with the sale of BCSWA to a private company, the Newtown Supervisors wholeheartedly agreed with our community when drafting our resolution opposing the sale,” Snyder said.

She was also instrumental in the passage of a declaration to support a woman’s right to reproductive health care in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
A central tenet of Elen’s campaign is the balance between economic growth and the preservation of the environment.
“I support the rezoning and revitalization of the Newtown Business Commons to attract more businesses and revenue to the township,” Snyder said. “There’s an opportunity to take a portion of our township that is underused and direct smart growth there.”
Thanks to Snyder’s initiative, she and the other supervisors unanimously passed an environmental resolution to encourage the reduction of single use plastics including bags and food containers.
Elen serves as a board member of the Newtown Joint Municipal Authority where community issues concerning the quality of life in Newtown remain a top priority. She is also the liaison to the Newtown Township Environment Advisory Committee.
An active member of the community, and prior to assuming her role as a supervisor, Snyder established “Friends of Roberts Ridge Park” to preserve open space for the enjoyment of all.
