Tim Defoor

Seeking Office: AUDITOR GENERAL

Party: Republican

District: Statewide

Four years ago, I promised the voters of this Commonwealth that I would do the job and utilize my over 30 years of auditing and fraud investigation experience to improve Pennsylvania. I promised not to weaponize audits but to follow the law. My office has worked diligently every day and delivered on those promises.

Our office continues to focus on making the over 3,500 audits we produce each year more efficient and effective. Ensuring our audits are based on risk and vulnerabilities has allowed for a more streamlined approach. Doing audits this way ensures taxpayers get the most out of the Department of the Auditor General. The residents of this Commonwealth work too hard to deserve any less; compliance work and simple checking of the box will not fly in my administration.

We have transformed and improved the way we do school audits including public, charter and cyber schools. Working with the General Assembly, we have advocated for financial literacy to be taught in our schools from K-12 through our “Be Money Smart” financial literacy initiative. Our office has traveled from Erie to Scranton, to Philadelphia, Westmoreland County and Counties in between meeting with educators, community leaders, and the financial services industry to discuss the importance of financial literacy being taught to the next generation.

My first four years were about transformation and improvement; the next four years will be ensuring the job gets done. Pennsylvania taxpayers deserve more, and they can trust me to continue to deliver. Let’s get back to work.

UNIQUELY QUALIFIED
Tim started his career in public service as a Special Investigator with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Office of Inspector General, where he investigated government and contractor fraud, waste, and abuse within state government. Tim then went on to become a Special Agent with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Office of Attorney General, investigating Medicaid fraud and illegal prescription drug diversion. Later he became a Fraud Investigator and Internal Auditor for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Health Plan, the federal government Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and several federal government program integrity contractors.

In 2015, Tim was elected as Dauphin County Controller, where he quickly earned a reputation as a fiscal watchdog and trusted leader saving and recovering over $1 million of taxpayer dollars during his first term in office. He has also worked to create Dauphin County’s first Audit Division and prepared the first Dauphin County Retirement Fund Report.

To protect taxpayers Tim also changed how Dauphin County reported its finances to a comprehensive, detailed, and transparent financial report. His efforts helped earn Dauphin County their first ever award for financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.

With over 30 years of combined experience in law enforcement and auditing, in both public service and private industries, Tim is uniquely qualified to serve Pennsylvania citizens on day one.

PROTECTING OUR PRIORITIES
Tim has a proven track record of fighting waste, fraud, and abuse. He’ll work tirelessly to cut wasteful government spending to protect taxpayers and help create a stronger economy that allows businesses to create good paying jobs here in Pennsylvania. TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT
Tim’s not a career politician. He has spent his entire career making sure the government is transparent on how it spends and uses taxpayer dollars and making sure the programs created to use them are working. DEDICATED TO HIS COMMUNITY
Growing up in Harrisburg, Tim has always been committed to giving back to the community he loves. Tim is the former Chair of the Harrisburg Area Community College Foundation Board of Directors, current member of the State YMCA of Pennsylvania Board of Directors – Youth and Government Program, and the Chris “Handles” Franklin Foundation Board of Directors. Tim is also a member of the Greater Harrisburg Area NAACP and the Pennsylvania State Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #78.
