The Doylestown Action League will host a community May Day Friday evening to join with May Day Strong events across the country in support of workers’ rights, economic justice, and to bring the local community together.
“This event is about coming together as a community to highlight the importance of fair labor practices and economic justice. We encourage residents to join us in making thoughtful choices that support workers and strengthen our local economy,” said Doylestown Action League’s Kira Kraiman in a press release.
Doylestown Action League founded in 2025 has been organizing rallies and community forums on a broad range of topics.
Those participating or observing May Day Strong are encouraged to shop local rather than buying from large corporations and make “intentional choices about how and where they spend their money.”
Those who are able to take the day off from work or school are asked to join in solidarity with workers across the country – and past generations.
May Day has deep historical roots around the world to recognize and promote workers’ rights and economic justice.
In the U.S., May Day came about in the early 1800s as a result of growing Industrial Revolution exploitative sweatshop practices, including child labor.
According to Britannica, in 1866 the National Labor Union set the stage for a nationwide eight-hour workday; while subsequent efforts called for workday strikes on May 1.
May Day Strong events this year will be held across the country.
The Doylestown rally will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of Main and Court streets in Doylestown. Advance registration is encouraged.
Friday’s event includes a non –perishable items drive including food, toiletries, cleaning and feminine products to be donated to those in need. “Goody bags” for not shopping on Friday will be available at the Doylestown Action league table on a first come basis.
