Doylestown Action League will host a rally Saturday as part of the national “Good Troubles Lives On, Weekend of Action.”
The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Doylestown Courthouse lawn (55 E. Court Street) and aims to bring people together to advocate for social justice, voting rights and civic engagement.
“Showing up at rallies not only feels good, but builds relationships, helps people learn about actions they can take and inspires them to take them,” said Doylestown Action League representative Kira Kraiman. “Rallying around a topic sends a message to the ‘pillars’ of a community that the community is unhappy and willing to speak out.”
The event features local activists and leaders including: Bob Harvie, Barbara Simmons, Ian Austin, Liza Heavener, Jesse Ketchel, among others.
Musical performances at the event will be offered by Nick Maio, Mindy Murrey, Neal Carson, Baron Tiger and Dissent Rising.
Attendees are encouraged to bring signs, chairs or blankets. The Doylestown Action League will also be collecting non-perishable food and toiletries for donation.
The “Good Trouble Lives on, Weekend of Action” is inspired by U.S. Congressman John Lewis a Civil Rights icon.
In honor of his legacy, “Good Trouble Lives On” encourages local communities to host gatherings across the country to fight back against the “brazen rollback of civil rights.”
The Doylestown Action League is a grassroots community organization dedicated progressive change advocacy. The group was formed last year in response to the Trump administration’s encroachment and rollbacks on civil and human rights progress, American democracy and the country’s foundational principles.
