A familiar face in Doylestown Borough, Councilman Tim Brennan, has announced his intention to run for state representative for the redrawn 29th Legislative District. This will be his second time at the starting gate.
Brennan and his wife, Trish, and their son, Tucker, 13, live in Doylestown. He is a lawyer and has served on the Doylestown Borough Council since 2016, where he serves as chair of the zoning and planning committee. He got his undergraduate degree from Ursinus, a private college in Collegeville, PA. During that time he also completed two congressional internships. He then graduated with honors from Widener University School of Law, a private university in Chester, PA. Following that he studied international law in Dublin and the Czech Republic.
His law practice – Brennan Law Offices – specializes in municipal law, business and civil litigation, workers’ compensation, personal injury, and real estate.
In 2018 he went up against Wendy Ullman in the Democratic primary for what was Doylestown’s legislative district, the 143rd, and lost to her by just 54 votes. Ullman then went on to win the seat, taking what had been a Republican sinecure in what was a country-wide rebellion against the Trump-era Republican administration. (In 2020, the 143rd legislative district switched back to a Republican candidate more in the Trump mold, Shelby Labs, whose college major in communications made her camera-ready.)
The 2021 race will be a new ballgame, since the redrawn map will shed Haycock, Bedminster, Bridgeton, Durham, Nockamixon, Plumstead and Tinicium townships, along with Riegelsville, should the new legislative map be approved by the courts. The new District 29 will include Doylestown Township and Borough, Chalfont Borough, New Britain Borough, Buckingham Township, Solebury, and New Hope. Incumbent Republican Megan Schroeder of Buckingham is currently representing the 29th and she presumably will run for re-election.
In announcing his campaign, Brennan said: “I have been a committed advocate for LGBTQ civil rights and respect. I have worked to that end as a member of Doylestown Borough Council since 2016 and will do so in Harrisburg.” He also pledged to focus on healthcare, gun safety, education, women’s health care rights, the environment, and support to seniors. You know, the things Republicans tend to leave out.
Conor O’Hanlon, chair of the Doylestown Democratic Committee, has also declared his intention to run for the nomination for the District 29 seat.
