Before we decide what to do this weekend, I’d like to take a minute to ask a favor. While I write the weekend column, I’m also the Chief Operating Officer of the Bucks County Beacon. This month, we are working hard to move towards long-term financial sustainability. The Beacon has come a long way since I did the initial research and wrote the business plan to start this project back in January 2021. Back then, it was clear that there was a hole in the market for progressive, hyperlocal government news, but who knew it would take off so fast? Friday, September 9: Tonight, how about an Eric Clapton tribute band? Shaun Hague is the frontman for Journeyman, the only nationally touring Eric Clapton tribute band. A tribute band is fun, especially when the front man tries hard to look the part as much as sounding the part. Journeyman is playing at New Hope Winery, which is located at 6123 Lower York Road in New Hope. Tickets are $39.
Saturday, September 10: The 31st Annual Doylestown Arts Festival is this Saturday and Sunday. The festival is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Whatever you’re looking for, it will probably be at the Doylestown Arts Festival. There are over 150 independent artists, live music on five stages, demonstrations and activities, and a food court. Parking will surely be an issue. The recommendation is to walk or bike if you’re local, and if not follow these parking suggestions.
If you’re not in for arts, how about beer? The Bucks-Mont Oktoberfest, hosted by the Vereinigung Erzgebirge Club is taking place at their location at 130 Davisville Road in Warminster. If you’re wondering about that club name, the literal translation is Ore Mountains Association or Union. The Ore Mountains extend 100 miles along the German-Czech border. Back to Oktoberfest. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and tickets are $10 the day of the event. Beyond the beer, there will be German music during the day and Rock & Roll at night. There will also be soccer (Fußball) games, German food, a moon bounce, face painting, kickball, arts and crafts, and an obstacle course.
Sunday, September 11: Sand Castle Winery is hosting Jazz at the Castle from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Isaac Felix Jazz Quartet will be playing in the tented vineyard terrace, which overlooks the vineyard and the Delaware River. There is no cover charge. It’s likely going to rain, but jazz on a rainy day under a tent sounds like quite a relaxing afternoon.
Sunday evening, Boy George & Culture Club is playing at the Wind Creek Event Center. There are still tickets available. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. If you’ve never heard of Boy George, please watch the video above for reference. Wind Creek Event Center is located at 77 Wind Creek Blvd. in Bethlehem.
