The November 4th election was a clear win for Democrats in Bucks County. The top of the ticket – the county row offices and judicial races – were important wins for the party. But they weren’t the only historic victories in the county.
A look at the municipal races shows a strong turn toward Democratic leadership from the electorate across the county.
And several historic wins.
Buckingham Township elected Mike Bateman as the first ever Democrat to the five member Board of Supervisors. He’s the first Democrat to get elected in 18 years in Buckingham Township. Shannon Sticker, the Chair of the Buckingham Dems, says that this win was about change.

“This is so much more than just having an R or a D next to the candidate’s name. [W]e have had the same three Supervisors since 2013—and two of them since 2003 and 2005,” said Sticker. “This race was about listening to the community and representing the community. ”
Plumstead Township flipped to a Democrat-majority Supervisors Board reportedly for the first time in its 250 year history. Pennridge School District has completely reversed its board composition, from 8-1 Republican in 2021 to 8-1 Democrat today. Pennridge Democrats Chair Adam Bencik, knew that their candidates were going to do well this year, but was excited to see that the preliminary numbers show them beating their 2023 turnout by at least two points.
In my own Supervisor race in Lower Makefield Township, former County Prothonotary Judi Reiss and I out-performed strong 2021 and 2023 Democratic wins by more than 1,700 votes.
Everywhere that Democrats won this year, they won big.
Aside from the raw numbers, there are other historic wins in the county. Newtown Boro and Yardley Borough have both elected women as Mayors for the first time in their history. Perkasie Borough, which was 5-4 Republican-controlled and had only two women on the board is now 7-2 Democrat-controlled and now a majority-women board.
Young Democrats won supervisor seats in Newtown Township. Former Langhorne Borough Council Council President Barry Truchil is now mayor. And it looks like the Democrats have swept the Bensalem School Board, building on their gains in the 2023 election. Across the entire county, the Democrats have shown that they’re the party that voters trust for their local leaders.
Yes, the 2024 election dealt a strong blow to Democratic morale in Bucks County, like across the nation. But this year’s gains, when viewed alongside similarly strong wins at the local and county level in 2023, show that this is a weakness of the party’s national brand, NOT the strength of its local candidates.

In fact, in almost every school district where the Republicans ran an extreme right-wing candidate, the voters of Bucks County rejected that them and gave their trust to the Democrats. The Central Bucks School Board, which became a national battleground after Moms for Liberty infiltrated it and waged book-banning and reactionary culture wars starting in 2021, has now ousted every last vestige of those extreme right-wing policies. The Democrats now control the school board 9-0.
And in historically GOP-controlled councils and boards, voters turned to Democrats again and again for leadership. And at the top of the ticket, when it came to who they trust most with law & order and the safety of their families, the voters selected Democrats.
Bucks County Democrats have a lot to be proud of today and a tremendous foundation not just for the 2026 campaign, but for a strong future for the county.
