Kristin Egan, a Neshaminy School District board director and public school teacher and Democrat, is challenging incumbent Republican Joe Hogan to represent Bucks County’s 142nd House District in the Pennsylvania State Legislature.
Hogan announced his re-election campaign bid in early February; Egan recently announced her intention to run against him.
HD-142 is made up of Langhorne, Langhorne Manor and Penndel boroughs; portions of Middletown and Northampton townships and Lower Southampton Township. A map of the 142nd district may be found here.
“I’ve consistently been ranked as one of the most independent house members in Harrisburg, working with anyone who wants to help our community,” Hogan said in a press release.
Egan served as executive officer of the Bensalem Township Education and a Bensalem Education Foundation board member, Bucks County Beacon reported.
Egan is a Bensalem School District teacher and a district chief navigator. She has served as a Title 1 coordinator, a role that manages federal grant funding to support academic achievement in underserved students.
Hogan, of Middletown Township, said he has worked “across the aisle” to deliver bi-partisan legislative action for constituents.
“Our families face incredible challenges today. I’ve been fighting in Harrisburg to lower costs and deliver victories for our families, our seniors and our small businesses,” he said.
Hogan was a former staff member for the late U.S. (PA-01) Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick. Hogan served as Bucks County Redevelopment Authority program director, Bucks County Beacon previously reported.
Among his claims are voting to approve record funding for public schools; support for lowering income taxes for working families and small businesses and relief for first-time home buyers.
Egan’s key issues, according to Bucks County Beacon’s previous report include: improving educational opportunities, creating stronger community involvement and demanding greater fiscal transparency –to constituents and community members.
“We need to improve test scores for our students while paying our teachers fairly, lower energy costs for our families and deliver reforms to our health system that lowers costs,” Hogan said.
Hogan said change needs to come without a tax price tag on working families and small businesses.
On his first day in office on January 5, 2023 and with a razor-thin GOP majority, Hogan, along with two other Republican House members and Democrats, voted to elect Democratic Rep. Mark Rozzi (Berks) as House Speaker, Bucks County Beacon previously reported.
